The Long View

A quit smoking app that shows you the time you get back.

Tell it your age, your sex, how long you have smoked and how much. It estimates what smoking has cost you in years of life, and how much of that comes back as you stay quit. Alongside the number sits a photo of your reason for quitting, and a daily check-in that keeps both up to date.

Privacy

Your entries and your photo stay on your device. The app asks for no account, no email address and no payment details, and sends nothing to a server we control. Where sync is offered it runs through your own private iCloud container, which we cannot read. This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.

How the estimate works

Baseline life expectancy comes from the US Social Security Administration period life table, which is the average for someone of your age and sex in the general population. The effect of smoking, and of quitting, is applied from published cessation research.

The figure the app shows is a motivational estimate built from population averages, not a prediction about you and not medical advice. Nothing here diagnoses, treats or prevents any condition. Talk to a doctor or a quitline about stopping smoking. In the US, that is 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
